Excel Tips and Tricks for Researchers

This two-hour online course is not a general introduction to Excel, but rather focuses on time-saving features that will be of particular interest to both quantitative and qualitative researchers. Topics include tips and tricks for data entry, techniques for cleaning and manipulating data, pivot tables, graph creation and formatting, and using formulas. We’ll also discuss how Excel is useful for working with more than just numerical information, and demonstrate how it can be used for basic analysis of qualitative data.

By the end of this course attendees will have a good understanding of how to:

  • Enter data efficiently, including the use of data validation
  • Clean/screen spreadsheets before analysis begins
  • Conduct basic analysis and manipulate data
  • Work with pivot tables
  • Create Excel charts
  • Use macros for speedy formatting
  • Analyse qualitative data with Excel.
