Answer

The statistical procedures in PASW (SPSS) are available from the 'Analyze' menu - there are quite a few of them which can be a little overwhelming! Without some knowledge of statistical theory, there is no easy way for you to figure out what test you should run. PASW does have a Statistics Coach (access this from the Help menu) which can be useful in helping you work out which test to use, but even that requires some basic statistical knowlegde.

We suggest taking the time to learn some statistical theory (it's not as difficult as it sounds!). Consulting a good statistics textbook for your discipline is a good place to start, but there are also some good texts that cover SPSS alongside statistical theory. We recommend 'SPSS Survival Manual' by Julie Pallant (Publisher: Allen & Unwin), 'SPSS: Analysis Without Anguish' by Sherdian Coakes (Publisher: John Wiley & Sons) and 'Discovering Statistics Using SPSS' by Andy Field (Publisher: Sage). Pricing and purchasing details of these can be found on our Recommended Reading webpage.
