Answer

If you see codes in your Word document which look similar to { ADDIN EN.CITE <cite></cite><year></year> don't panic!

The are just the field codes in Microsoft Word. Your EndNote citations are still in the document, but Word is showing additional information.

To hide the field codes:

For Word 2000, 2002 and 2003:

  1. In Word go to Tools > Options.
  2. Choose the 'View' tab and uncheck the box next to Field Codes.
  3. Choose OK.

Word 2007:

  1. Go to the Office icon in the top left corner and choose Word Options at the bottom.
  2. Click on the 'Advanced' option on the left hand side and scroll down to the section titled Show Document Content.
  3. Uncheck the item titled 'Show field codes instead of their values' and choose OK.
